Myrtle Beach

Just a recent view of our summer Beach trip. The sun was warm, water was nice, and we all had a restful time. John didn't even burn this year. Perhaps this is a record! Enjoy the pictures...

Our Disney Trip

(and a couple of other things that I have been negligent in blogging about ;) )

We just returned from our first family trip to Disney World. Actually it was the kids, as well as John's first trip to Disney. We went with my parents, brother/sister in law and nephew. We were fortunate to be able to stay on the Disney property and after staying on the property, I don't think I would ever do it any other way.

The resort we stayed at was beautiful and the weather was amazing (80's all week)...of course we were less than excited to return to 40 degrees and rain. We were hoping it would be warm here since we already had our every 8 year snowfall a couple of weeks ago (see pics).

The boys had a blast at Disney. They seemed to be at perfect ages to enjoy the parks although we did end up renting a "stroller" for them to ride in. I didn't feel too bad since I saw several children who were at least 8 years old riding in the "strollers."

Jacob definitely won the award for most daring and having the strongest stomach. At one point, Jacob said to me "It's o.k. mommy....you can go on the ride....I will hold your hand." It was a ride called The Tower of Terror which dropped 13 stories, not once but repeatedly. Needless to say, my stomach was in an upheaval, all the while Jacob was laughing hysterically. He has been telling everyone "My favorite ride was the up and down ride." He also rode his first roller coaster, Space Mountain, and loved every minute of it.

Austin was a bit more cautious. He was willing to try most rides once but wasn't real fond of any of the thrill rides. He did ride Space Mountain but I decided once was enough since his face was as white as a sheet when we got off the ride. Austin said his favorite thing at Disney was the big slide into the pool at the resort...go figure. He really enjoyed the race cars as well. We took the kids to a character breakfast which they loved.

Unfortunately Jacob had to wear an above the elbow splint on our trip. He broke both bones in his arm while riding his bike on Super Bowl Sunday. We initially thought he would still be in a cast for the trip but his doctors were great and arranged to have a special splint made that was molded to his arm and can be worn in the water. This special splint allowed him to be able to swim and go on all the water rides. We were so thankful that this worked out.

We went to the doctor today for another xray of Jacob's arm and they say it is healing well but he will have to keep wearing the hard splint for another 4 weeks whenever he is active (aka all the time).

I will try and post again soon. We have friends from Colorado coming to visit in a couple of weeks, so that will probably be my next post. Hope everyone is doing well.

We are certainly looking forward to spring!

Can't Believe It's January....

Once again I have lived up to my name of a slack blogger. I always have good intentions but I just don't ever actually write the post.

The boys had their Christmas presentations at school which were cute and of course, somewhat comical. Austin's class celebrated "Christmas Around the World." They sang a Hanukkah song which Austin still likes to sing from time to time.....it is so cute. Austin was very serious and hardly cracked a smile during his Christmas program. Jacob, in true form, waved to us about 50 times during his performance and occasionally sang the songs.

We spent Christmas with my family in North Carolina and spent New Years in Colorado with John's family. It was a busy but relaxing time. John and I got to ski twice and the kids took their first ski lessons which they really enjoyed. The kids enjoyed sledding pretty much every day that we were at Johns' parents cabin.

We were able to catch up with some friends in Denver. It was great to see Kate and Mike and their kids. Austin and Jacob loved getting to play with Josh, Abigail, and Patrick. Chris and Blu made the trek down from Wyoming so we were able to see them for a quick lunch. We definitely miss those guys as well. You don't realize how much friends mean to you until they are on the other side of the country.

Both boys seemed to have settled back into the school routine. Jacob is doing much better in his preschool class and seems to enjoy the class much more than he did previously. Austin continues to do well in his kindergarten class. According to his teacher, he told everyone about "the awesome adventure that he had in Colorado."

Our next big adventure will be a trip to Disney World in March. I will try to post before then but I can't make any guarantees :)
